New, still wet morning calf.
LE Chocolate Cosmo was the 1st heifer we halter broke and that Celeste showed. She is now 6 and this morning gave us our 1st fall calf. At this time we believe it is a bull calf. Our intention with Chocolate is to calf share. If we do, watch for more regarding Longhorn milk.

LE Chocolate Cosmo has been very difficult to get a picture of her, she just refuses to lift her head away from the grass. Levi got this picture this morning and I was going to crop it some but I noticed her mom White Lie to her left. I'm afraid White Lie may have some frost damage to her horn as it started to rotate all summer. It's solid, will just have to watch and wait.
Also on the back right of the picture is Chocolate's calf Osiria Rose LE.
We are waiting for Chocolate to get a little closer to calving as we intend to calf share her. I'm looking forward to see how rich longhorn milk is.

One benefit that may not be discussed about rotational or mob grazing is calmer cattle and especially the calves. Because every day pasture is examined and fences are moved. Cows & calves are talked to and walked around.
The 1st few years on this property we just utilizethe existing large acre pastures. We walked out every few days and the calves would be leary of us every thought we always talk to them. Now with small lots they even come up to see us. We feed range cubes from time to time so if we venture out with them every one comes to us. This makes moving cattle very easy. Last night the herd was contained in a lot near the driveway after day & half roaming the entire 30 ac north pasture. So this morning I looked out to see the herd. It is wonderful to see them in the front. Calves right next to the fence and just staying there as I talk to them. So here are my morning pictures.

We do rotational grazing and with the heavy Rain yesterday afternoon there was a short and the cows took advantage. It's so tall that it's very hard to see the half of the herd that is laying down.

A little late on posting but we enjoy our attendance at ITLA Longhorn Show of the Ozarks held at Ozark Empire Fair Livestock Exhibitors. Our big Sebastians Star took non-halter All Age Champion Female and RH Rebel Amber took Reserve. LE Festus took non-halter and halter All Age Champion Steer. He is a young 4 yr old so he has 2 more years of horn growth to see if he reaches 100" or more. We really enjoyed hearing the difference judges give reasons on each of our cattle we entered. It helps evaluate direction of our breeding program and that we have done some good things so far.

Today the herd got a new pasture. We try to always send them through the corral. Levi measured some which included a 3yr old over 70. Because of the heat he only did just a few. But ALL 15 calves experienced a halter with 10 at one time. Even the youngest at a week old was tied for a few minutes. Was nice that only 3 pitched the "I'm going to throw myself down on the ground" act. Nice color of the 13 out of Stop Box 2020. The oldest at 5 months did not return to his mama so the 2 of them will be crying for a few night and he will experience halter training. It all went well except near the end I discovered where the wasps live. Got it just above both ankles. Here are the babies all ready to go back to mamas.

This bull calf is not yet 2 months and he looks to be the biggest one the the pasture. Hard to get him & mom to cooperate for a photo shoot.
